Description

Tectyl 859B is a high-quality, light-viscosity preservative oil designed to protect enclosed systems from corrosion. Approved under Military Specification MIL-PRF-46002D, Grade 1, it delivers dual-layered protection through contact inhibitors for surfaces below the oil level and vaporized rust inhibitors for the atmosphere above. Its formulation makes it ideal for safeguarding systems in storage or transport, such as fuel tanks, cylinders, and gear housings.

Tectyl 859B offers reliable, long-lasting corrosion protection for enclosed systems, ensuring optimal performance and safeguarding critical components in storage and transport.

Key Features:

  • QPL Approved: Conforms to MIL-PRF-46002D, Grade 1, ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Dual-Layered Protection: Provides contact preservation below the oil level and vapor-phase corrosion protection above.
  • Versatile Application: Ideal for enclosed systems requiring long-term protection from rust and corrosion.
  • Light Viscosity: Specifically designed for Grade 1 applications, ensuring effective vapor-phase inhibitor distribution.

Product Uses:

  • Preservative Oil for Enclosed Systems:
    • Fuel/storage tanks
    • Cylinders, transmissions, and gear housings
    • Clutch compartments, crankcases, and hydraulic systems
  • Seasonal Equipment Storage: Protects farm equipment, snowplows, buses, and unpainted auto/truck body sections during storage or shipping.
  • Protects Ferrous Metals: Full-strength application for ferrous metals; dilute to 2% or less for non-ferrous metals.
  • Not for Outdoor Exposure: Designed for use in enclosed systems only and not suitable for operational use or systems with rubber components.

Product Performance:

  • Film Thickness:
    • Recommended Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 0.17 mils
  • Coverage: 8,303 sq. ft. per gallon at the recommended DFT.
  • Protection Duration: Up to 1 year in an enclosed system.
  • Compatibility: Not recommended for non-ferrous metals unless diluted appropriately.

Application Recommendations:

  • Application Methods: Apply by spray, fogging, or pouring into an enclosed system.
  • Important Notes:
    • Avoid use in systems with rubber components.
    • Not intended for outdoor exposure or as an operational oil.

Product Applications

TECTYL 859B can be used at full strength in ferrous metal systems. Where non-ferrous metals are present, TECTYL® 859B must be diluted 2% or less, depending on the metals present. To protect upper cylinder walls and valves in diesel or gasoline engines, 8 ounces of TECTYL® 859B are introduced through the air filter and sucked into the cylinders by turning over the motor with ignition off. To forestall rust, which will foul a diesel injection system, 1 ounce of TECTYL® 859B per 7 ½ gallons (1 cubic foot) capacity is fogged into the fuel tanks. If tank contains oil or gasoline, 1 ounce of TECTYL® 859B is added for each gallon present.
