Application Methods

Tectyl 859B can be used at full strength in ferrous metal systems. For non-ferrous metals, it must be diluted to 2% or less, depending on the metals present. Specific applications include:

  1. Engine Protection: For diesel or gasoline engines, 8 ounces are introduced through the air filter and drawn into the cylinders by turning over the motor with ignition off to protect upper cylinder walls and valves.
  2. Fuel Tank Protection: To prevent rust in diesel injection systems, add 1 ounce per 7½ gallons (1 cubic foot) capacity by fogging into fuel tanks. If the tank contains oil or gasoline, add 1 ounce for each gallon present.

Ideal Uses

  • Enclosed systems requiring corrosion protection
  • Fuel/storage tanks
  • Cylinders, transmissions, and gear housings
  • Seasonal equipment storage for items like farm equipment and snowplows

Additional Information

  • QPL Approved: Meets MIL-PRF-46002D Grade 1 requirements
  • Dual-Layer Protection: Provides both contact preservation below oil level and vapor-phase protection above
  • Not suitable for: Outdoor exposure, operational use, or systems with rubber components
  • National Stock Number: 9150-01-030-0631 (55 Gallon Drum)
  • Export Control Classification: EAR99

Removal

Like other Tectyl products, it can be removed using mineral spirits or citrus-based cleaners.

This specialized corrosion preventive is designed specifically for enclosed systems where its volatile corrosion inhibitors can effectively protect metal surfaces against rust and corrosion during storage or transport.

Product Applications

TECTYL 859B can be used at full strength in ferrous metal systems. Where non-ferrous metals are present, TECTYL® 859B must be diluted 2% or less, depending on the metals present. To protect upper cylinder walls and valves in diesel or gasoline engines, 8 ounces of TECTYL® 859B are introduced through the air filter and sucked into the cylinders by turning over the motor with ignition off. To forestall rust, which will foul a diesel injection system, 1 ounce of TECTYL® 859B per 7 ½ gallons (1 cubic foot) capacity is fogged into the fuel tanks. If tank contains oil or gasoline, 1 ounce of TECTYL® 859B is added for each gallon present.
