Description

TECTYL 848DHF is a high-performance, solvent-based light oil corrosion preventive compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company, Inc., specifically designed to provide reliable protection for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, particularly CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery parts. This thin film rust preventive is formulated in aliphatic solvents and creates a light, transparent, sometimes non-discernable protective film that effectively prevents corrosion while penetrating cracks and crevices of metal components. With its quick-drying, low-viscosity formula, TECTYL 848DHF offers exceptional protection during in-plant processing, transit, and storage, making it an ideal solution for short-term rust prevention in indoor environments.

Key Features

  • High Flash Point (140°F): Significantly reduces the risk of sparks or flammability during use in elevated temperature environments
  • Low Viscosity Formula: Very low viscosity makes it easy to brush or spray onto metal surfaces with complex shapes or deep crevices
  • Penetrating Protection: Light film penetrates cracks and crevices, preventing corrosion deep within metal structures
  • Quick Drying: Forms a protective film rapidly, enhancing productivity in manufacturing environments
  • Transparent Finish: Leaves a light, sometimes non-discernable sheen which reflects light and provides a pleasant appearance
  • Extended Coverage: Covers approximately 3,800-6,600 sq.ft/gallon at recommended film thickness
  • Excellent Humidity Resistance: Provides reliable protection in high humidity environments
  • Versatile Application: Can be applied by spray, brush, dip, or roller methods for various component shapes
  • Economical Protection: Provides cost-effective coverage without compromising on performance
  • Easy Removal: Can be removed with mineral spirits or citrus-based cleaners when needed

Ideal Applications

  • Precision gears and components
  • Lawn mower blades and cutting equipment
  • CNC-type machinery parts
  • Metal components during manufacturing processes
  • Precision machined surfaces

Manufacturing:

  • Moving metal parts during production processes
  • Machined components before assembly
  • Metal parts during inter-operational storage
  • Tools and dies between operations
  • Industrial processing equipment

Storage and Shipping:

  • Spare parts inventory protection
  • Metal components during shipping
  • Equipment during short-term indoor storage
  • Hardware and fasteners inventory
  • Metal surfaces requiring temporary protection

Industrial Equipment:

  • Metal surfaces with complex geometries
  • Equipment operated intermittently
  • Components requiring protection without heavy coatings
  • Parts where visual inspection is necessary
  • Equipment in humid indoor environments

Application Guidelines

  1. Product Preparation: Formulated to be used as supplied; ensure uniform consistency prior to use
  2. Stirring Requirements: Continued stirring generally not required
  3. Temperature Control: Apply when ambient and product temperature is 50-95°F
  4. Application Methods: Can be applied by spray, brush, dip, or roller
  5. Thinning: DO NOT THIN; incorrect thinning will affect film build, dry time, and product performance
  6. Cold Storage Issues: If product thickens due to cold storage or loss of solvent during use, contact Daubert Chemical Company

Equipment Recommendations:

  • Pumps with a ratio of 10:1 or greater for efficient use of the product
  • Spray equipment with tungsten carbide nozzles (.007″ to .009″ tip orifice size)
  • High-pressure fluid hoses (minimum 3/8-inch diameter for hose lengths under 50 ft)
  • Larger diameter hoses for distances over 50 ft
  • Dipping tanks for batch processing of small parts
  • Clean brushes or rollers for manual application
  • Appropriate containment systems to prevent runoff
  • Personal protective equipment as specified in the SDS

Storage and Handling

  • Removal Method: Wet and dry film can be removed with mineral spirits or citrus-based cleaners
  • Safety Information: Refer to Daubert’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete handling and safety information
  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight
  • Environmental Limitations: Recommended for indoor or undercover protection; not suitable for outdoor exposure
  • Shelf Life: Consult manufacturer’s guidelines for specific shelf life information
  • Container Management: Keep containers tightly closed when not in use to prevent contamination
  • Spill Procedures: Use appropriate absorbent materials to contain and clean up spills
  • Disposal: Dispose of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
