TECTYL 846 Class I is a military-approved corrosion preventive compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company, specifically formulated to meet the requirements of Military Specification MIL-PRF-16173E, Grade 4, Class I. This premium solvent-based, water-displacing protective coating creates a firm, amber-colored film that provides exceptional long-term protection for metal surfaces in various storage and transportation conditions. The Class I designation indicates a conventional formulation that offers superior protection where VOC regulations are not a primary concern.

Application Guidelines

  • Preferred application method is dipping, though brush and spray methods are also effective
  • Recommended ambient and product temperature: 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
  • For optimal spray application:
    • Use pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater
    • Recommended tungsten carbide nozzles (.015″ to .017″ tip orifice)
    • Use high-pressure fluid hoses (minimum 3/8-inch diameter)

Storage and Handling

  • Removal of wet and dry film using mineral spirits or citrus-based cleaners
  • Alternative removal methods include hot alkaline wash or low-pressure steam

Preferred application for the Tectyl 846 Class I solvent-based, rust preventative product is dipping. This product can also be applied by brush or spray. Daubert Chemical Company recommends that the ambient and product temperature be 50 - 95°F (10 - 35°C) at time of application.
