Description

TECTYL® 8140 is a high-performance, thixotropic asphalt corrosion preventive undercoating designed to provide comprehensive protection for transportation equipment. Combining advanced asphalt, solvents, and specialized additives, this product creates a durable black protective film that offers exceptional defense against rust, corrosion, abrasion, and noise in the most challenging environmental conditions.

Application Guidelines

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure metal surfaces are:
    • Clean
    • Dry
    • Free of rust
    • Free of oil
    • Free of mill scale

Application Conditions

  • Substrate Temperature: 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Ambient Temperature: 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Recommended Equipment:
    • Pump Ratios: 15:1 or greater
    • Spray Nozzles: Tungsten carbide
    • Nozzle Tip Size: 0.021″ to 0.025″
    • Hose Specifications:
      • Short distances (up to 50 ft): Minimum 3/8″ diameter
      • Longer distances: Up to 1/2″ diameter high-pressure fluid hoses

Application Method

  • Airless spray application
  • Use as supplied
  • No thinning required
  • Mild agitation prior to use

Removal and Cleanup

  • Removal Methods:
    • TECTYL HPS solventborne thinner
    • Vapor degreasing
    • Hot alkaline wash
    • Low-pressure steam
  • Fabric Removal: Normal dry cleaning procedures
  • Caution: Avoid chlorinated or highly aromatic solvents on painted surfaces

Storage and Handling
