Description

TECTYL® 7191 Clear is a premium water-based rust-proofing compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company, specifically designed to protect enclosed automotive body sections. This innovative formulation features a thin gel with low viscosity that allows for excellent film build on vertical surfaces while providing superior seam penetration through capillary action into areas with metal-to-metal overlap. The resulting clear film repels water, self-heals, and remains flexible to prevent chipping or cracking, making it ideal wherever a water-displacing, long-term, inner body corrosion preventive is needed.

Key Features

  • Superior Seam Penetration: Thin gel, low viscosity formulation provides excellent capillary action
  • Self-Healing Properties: Film can repair minor damage, extending protection life
  • Water Repellent and Displacing: Effectively prevents moisture-related corrosion
  • Flexible Film: Remains flexible across extreme temperatures (-40°C to 100°C)
  • Ultra-Low VOC Formula: At just 0.5 lbs/gallon VOC content, exceeds environmental regulations
  • Non-Staining: Will not stain automotive paint finishes
  • Clear Appearance: Invisible protection that doesn’t alter the appearance of treated areas
  • Quick Drying: Dries to touch in 2 hours and weatherproof in 16 hours
  • Freeze-Sensitive: Water-based formula requires protection from freezing temperatures

Ideal Applications

Automotive Body Protection:

  • Enclosed body sections requiring corrosion protection
  • Door panels, pillars, and structural components
  • Areas with metal-to-metal overlap that are prone to moisture entrapment
  • Seams and joints requiring invisible protection
  • Inner body cavities needing long-term corrosion prevention

Transportation Industry:

  • Fleet vehicle maintenance and preservation
  • Buses, trucks, and commercial vehicles
  • Critical areas requiring water-displacing protection
  • Areas prone to moisture accumulation

Manufacturing:

  • Assembly operations where seam protection is critical
  • Metal components with complex joint configurations
  • Applications requiring invisible, non-staining protection
  • Areas where water displacement and corrosion protection are essential

Application Guidelines

TECTYL® 7191 Clear is formulated to be used as supplied without thinning. This water-based coating requires specific handling and application considerations.

Surface Preparation:

  • For maximum performance, metal surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale
  • Recommended substrate temperature during application: 50-95°F (10-35°C)

Application Methods:

  • Normally applied by low pressure airless spray equipment
  • Use spray wands capable of coating critical areas through existing openings
  • When sprayed at 125 microns (5 mils wet), product will dry to touch in 2 hours and weatherproof in 16 hours
  • For optimal results, ensure ambient and product temperature is between 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application

Important Notes:

  • If product thickens due to cold storage or loss of water and coalescing solvent, contact Daubert Chemical Company
  • DO NOT THIN the product as incorrect thinning will affect film build, dry time, and performance
  • DO NOT FREEZE the product—the water-based formula is freeze-sensitive
  • The addition of any product over or under this coating is not recommended due to potential chemical incompatibility
  • The partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources

Storage and Handling

  • Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Mild agitation is recommended prior to use
  • Protect from freezing temperatures
  • Adequate ventilation is required for cure and to ensure against formation of a combustible liquid atmosphere
  • The partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources such as flares, flames, sparks, excessive heat, or torches
  • Wet films can be removed using soap and water
  • Dried films can be removed with kerosene or mineral spirits
  • Refer to Daubert’s Material Safety Data Sheet for complete health and safety instructions
