Description

Tectyl 7191 Clear is a water-based rust-proofing compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company, specifically designed to protect enclosed automotive body sections. Here are the key features and specifications:

Product Properties

  • Appearance: Clear, low viscosity, thixotropic liquid
  • Composition: Water-based with no flash point
  • Viscosity: 20-30 seconds (#4 Ford Cup)
  • Solids: 41% by weight, 39% by volume
  • VOC: 0.5 lbs/gal
  • Film Thickness: 125 microns wet, 50 microns dry

Performance Characteristics

  • Creates a clear film that repels water, self-heals, and remains flexible
  • Prevents chipping and cracking
  • Excellent for water displacement and inner body corrosion prevention
  • Penetrates seams through capillary action in metal-to-metal overlap areas
  • Tested to withstand 240 hours in accelerated salt fog testing
  • Withstands 1000 hours in humidity cabinet testing
  • Maintains flexibility at temperatures as low as -40°C
  • Resists flow at temperatures up to 100°C
  • Will not stain automotive paint finishes
  • Passes salt water immersion tests (one week at 40°C)
  • Creep measurement: 6-12mm between overlapping metal panels

Application Instructions

  • Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale
  • Recommended application temperature: 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Applied by low pressure airless spray equipment with spray wands
  • Dries to touch in 2 hours, weatherproof in 16 hours
  • Should be used as supplied without thinning
  • Requires adequate ventilation during cure

Storage and Handling

  • Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Mild agitation recommended before use
  • Do not freeze
  • Wet films can be removed with soap and water
  • Dried films can be removed with kerosene or mineral spirits

Important Notes

  • The partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources
  • Not recommended to add any product over or under this coating
  • Use of additional coatings could result in chemical incompatibility

The product is specifically recommended for use wherever a water-displacing, long-term, inner body corrosion preventive is needed.
