Description
TECTYL 511M CLASS II
TECTYL 511M Class II is a high-performance, solvent cutback, water-displacing corrosion preventive compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company, Inc. This military-grade protective coating forms a semi-firm, oily, translucent amber film that offers superior protection for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is QPL approved and meets multiple military specifications including MIL-PRF-16173E, Grade 5, for Class II; MIL-C-23411A, Type II; and MIL-P-116J, Type P-21. With a proven history dating back to the 1939 Squalus submarine salvage operation, TECTYL 511M Class II continues to be the trusted choice for industrial, military, and transportation applications requiring effective water displacement and long-term corrosion protection during covered shipment and indoor storage.

Application Guidelines
- Surface Preparation: Metal surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale
- Temperature Range: Daubert recommends that metal substrate temperature be 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
- Product Preparation: Use as supplied; ensure uniform consistency prior to use
- Stirring Requirements: Continued stirring generally not required
- Application Methods: Can be spray, dip, brush, or flush applied
- Ambient Conditions: Apply when ambient and product temperature is 50-95°F (10-35°C)
- Thinning: DO NOT THIN TECTYL 511M Class II; incorrect thinning will affect film build, dry time, and product performance
- Cold Storage Issues: If product thickens due to cold storage or loss of solvent during use, contact Daubert Chemical Company
- Precautions: Avoid direct contact with intake manifolds or fuel system components to prevent damage to sensors or valves
Equipment Recommendations:
- Spray equipment with Tungsten Carbide Nozzle Tips (0.011″ to 0.015″ orifice size)
- Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater for efficient application
- High-pressure fluid hoses (minimum 3/8 inches diameter for applications under 50 feet)
- Dipping tanks with appropriate ventilation
- Flushing equipment for internal cavities
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Storage and Handling
- Product Storage: Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
- Agitation: Mild agitation recommended prior to use
- Ventilation Requirements: Adequate ventilation required for cure and to prevent formation of combustible liquid
- Safety Precautions: Partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources such as flares, flames, sparks, excessive heat, or torches
- Removal Methods: Can be removed with TECTYL HPS solventborne thinner, vapor degreasing, hot alkaline wash, or low pressure steam
- Fabric Removal: Can be removed from fabrics by normal dry cleaning procedures
- Painted Surface Caution: Avoid use of chlorinated or highly aromatic solvents when removing from painted surfaces
