Description

TECTYL 506G is a premium solvent cutback corrosion preventive compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company, designed to deliver exceptional protection for transportation equipment and metal surfaces. The dry film is firm, amber, and translucent, with thixotropic properties that enable high film build for superior corrosion resistance. This versatile rustproofing solution transforms from a gel-like consistency when applied to a durable, flexible protective barrier that shields metal surfaces from environmental damage and degradation.

Properties

  • Dry Film Color: Amber, translucent
  • Film Type: Firm, wax-like
  • Flash Point: 106°F minimum (PMCC)
  • Density: 7.4 ± 0.1 lbs./gallon @ 77°F (25°C)
  • Specific Gravity: 0.89 @ 60°F (15.6°C)
  • Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 4 mils over metal profile
  • Theoretical Coverage: 180 sq. ft./gallon @ recommended DFT
  • Non-Volatile % by Weight: 54 ± 2
  • Non-Volatile % by Volume: 45 ± 1
  • Volatile Organic Content (VOC): 3.55 lbs./gallon maximum
  • Dry to Touch Time: 2-4 hours @ 77°F (25°C)
  • Cure Time: 24 hours
  • High Temperature Flow Point: 300°F minimum

Key Features

  • Self-healing properties for continuous protection even after minor surface damage
  • Excellent water repellency to prevent moisture penetration
  • Non-tacky, flexible film that maintains integrity in varying temperatures
  • Superior adhesion to both primed and unprimed metal surfaces
  • Outstanding performance in accelerated corrosion tests (1512 hours in 5% Salt Spray)
  • Exceptional humidity resistance (2000 hours in 100% Relative Humidity)
  • Thixotropic formulation allows for high film build and easier application

Ideal Applications

  • Automotive Industry: Rustproofing for underbody components, frames, and chassis
  • Transportation Equipment: Protection for trucks, trailers, buses, and rail cars
  • Industrial Equipment: Preservation of machinery and components during storage or shipping
  • Manufacturing: Protection of steel parts and components during assembly and transit
  • Used Equipment Protection: Ideal for protecting transportation equipment with less-than-perfect substrates
  • General Metal Protection: Suitable for providing abrasion-resistant coating on metal surfaces

Application Guidelines

  • Product is formulated to be used as supplied without thinning
  • Ensure uniform consistency prior to use; continued stirring generally not required
  • Recommended ambient and product temperature: 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
  • Apply by spray application for optimal results
  • Metal surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale for maximum performance
  • Recommended substrate temperature: 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
  • Apply at 10-12 mils wet film thickness to achieve 4-5 mils dry film thickness
  • Equipment recommendations:
    • Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater
    • Tungsten carbide nozzles (.017″ to .021″ tip orifice)
    • High-pressure fluid hoses (minimum 3/8-inch diameter)

Storage and Handling

  • Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Mild agitation recommended prior to use
  • Ensure adequate ventilation during application and curing
  • Partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources (flares, flames, sparks, excessive heat, or torches)
  • Removal options include TECTYL HPS solventborne thinner, vapor degreasing, hot alkaline wash, or low-pressure steam
  • Can be removed from fabrics by normal dry cleaning procedures
  • Avoid using chlorinated or highly aromatic solvents when removing from painted surfaces
  • Do not mix with other products; chemical incompatibility may adversely affect performance
