Description

TECTYL® 502C Class 2 is a premium solvent-based, soft film rust preventive coating manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company. This QPL (Qualified Products Listed) corrosion preventive compound is specifically designed to balance the longevity of corrosion protection with ease of cleanability for precision parts. Approved under Military Specifications MIL-PRF-16173E Grade 2, MIL-PRF-1713E Grade 2 Class I, and MIL-P-116J Type P-2, this grease-like formulation provides exceptional protection for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals during indoor storage and shipment. With its translucent amber film that allows for visual inspection, TECTYL® 502C Class 2 is particularly valuable for protecting highly polished surfaces and precision components while offering compatibility with various oils and greases, often eliminating the need for removal before use.

Application Guidelines

TECTYL® 502C Class 2 can be applied by brush, dip, or spray methods:

  • Application Methods: Can be applied by brush, dip, or spray
  • Recommended Equipment: Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater for efficient application
  • Nozzle Specifications: Tungsten carbide nozzles with 0.013″ to 0.017″ tip size
  • Hose Requirements: High-pressure hose with at least 3/8 inch diameter for up to 50 ft of material hose
  • Temperature Conditions: Daubert Chemical Company recommends that the ambient and product temperature be 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
  • Thinning: DO NOT THIN – Incorrect thinning will affect film build, dry time, and product performance
  • Thickening Issues: If product thickens due to cold storage or loss of solvent during use, contact Daubert Chemical Company

Storage and Handling

    • Temperature Control: Store at moderate temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)

    • Removal: Can be removed using mineral spirits, hot alkaline wash, low-pressure steam, or citrus-based cleaners when necessary

Product Applications

Thanks to the solvent carrier, the Tectyl 502C Class II coating can be applied easily using brush, dip, or spray methods and will quickly tighten up as the solvent evaporates. Preferred application for this solvent-based, rust preventative product is dipping. This product can also be applied by brush or spray. Daubert Chemical Company recommends that the ambient and product temperature be 50 - 95°F (10 - 35°C) at time of application.
