Description

TECTYL® 351-S is a premium water-based, asphalt emulsion corrosion preventive compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company. This economical underbody coating is specifically designed for protecting sensitive components on the underside of vehicles and transportation equipment used in both consumer and industrial settings. As a waterborne asphalt emulsion, TECTYL® 351-S provides excellent adhesion to metal or painted surfaces while being environmentally responsible with zero volatile organic compounds (VOC). Upon drying, it forms a firm, black, resilient, matte-textured film that is abrasion resistant and offers significant sound dampening properties, making it ideal for transportation equipment, trailer homes, modular homes, and sewage pipes.

Industrial Applications:

  • Protection of sensitive components in industrial equipment
  • Corrosion prevention for metal parts in high-humidity environments
  • Sound-dampening treatment for metal enclosures and housings
  • Metal surfaces requiring both physical protection and noise reduction

Application Guidelines

TECTYL® 351-S should be applied using conventional underbody rustproofing equipment:

  • Recommended Equipment: 15:1 airless pump or greater that can deliver 800-1200 psi to a 0.017 to 0.025 reverse-a-clean tip
  • Product Availability: Available in drums or totes
  • Surface Preparation: Ensure metal surfaces are clean, dry, and free from rust, oil, and mill scale
  • Application Temperature: Apply at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C) to allow for proper film formation
  • Coverage Rate: Apply to achieve recommended wet film thickness of 16-20 mils, which will result in 8-10 mils dry film thickness
  • Application Method: Suitable for airless spray or dip application

Storage and Handling

  • Temperature Sensitivity: DO NOT FREEZE – This product is water-based and should not be exposed to freezing conditions
  • Storage Temperature: Store above 40°F and below 100°F (5-38°C)
