Description
Tectyl 3345 White is a chip-resistant underbody coating that provides excellent protection against chipping, scratching, and gravel impacts. Here are guidelines for where and how to use this product:
Ideal Applications
Vehicle Underbody Protection
- Truck and trailer underbodies – Primary application for protection against road debris and gravel impacts
- Frame rails and chassis components – Areas exposed to stone chipping and road debris
- Wheel wells – Interior surfaces that need abrasion resistance
- Floor pans – To protect from road debris and provide sound dampening
- Rocker panels – Especially the lower sections exposed to road spray and debris
Sound Dampening Applications
- Sheet metal panels – To reduce resonance and structural-borne noise
- Interior floor panels – For noise reduction while providing corrosion protection
- Firewalls – To minimize engine noise transmission
- Load beds – For commercial vehicles and trailers
Other Applications
- External trash chutes – Note that it should NOT be used for interior trash chutes
- Protective coating for transport equipment – Where off-white color is preferred
- Areas requiring a visible inspection coating – The white color makes it easy to verify coverage
Application Guidelines
- Apply at temperatures above 50°F (10°C) to allow for proper film formation
- Use conventional underbody rustproofing equipment (10:1 airless pump or greater)
- Equipment should deliver 800-1200 psi to a .017 to 0.025 reverse-a-clean tip
- Apply to clean surfaces including primers, e-coat, and lightly oiled steel
- Recommended wet film thickness: 17.5 mils (resulting in 8.0 mils dry film)
- Coverage rate: 90 sq.ft/gallon
- Do not expose wet film to freezing temperatures
- Allows for topcoating with most urethane, acrylic, or alkyd resin automotive topcoats
Key Properties
- Water-based formula with very low VOC (0.34 lbs/gal minus water)
- Excellent corrosion resistance (2,000 hours in 5% salt spray test)
- Dries to touch in 30-60 minutes
- Full cure time: 72 hours
- NOT freeze/thaw stable – DO NOT FREEZE
- Wet film can be removed with soap and water (within 20 minutes)
- Dry film is not intended for removal
- Off-white color provides good visibility for quality control inspection
Remember that proper application temperature is critical, as this water-based product should not be applied to substrates below 50°F, and the wet film should not be exposed to freezing temperatures without sufficient dry time.
