Application Guidelines

TECTYL® 282 is designed to be diluted to 25% solids with mineral spirits for optimal performance:

  • Dilution Ratio: Typically diluted to 25% solids with mineral spirits
  • Application Methods: Commonly applied by dip; can also be sprayed or brushed
  • Temperature Conditions: Recommended product temperature of 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
  • Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean and free from existing rust or heavy contamination
  • Application Consistency: Ensure uniform consistency prior to use
  • Film Formation: Apply evenly to achieve the recommended dry film thickness of 0.10 mils
  • Drying Time: Allow 2-3 hours for complete curing under standard conditions

Storage and Handling

  • Temperature Control: Store at moderate temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Shelf Life: Best used within 36 months from date of manufacture when stored under proper conditions
  • Appearance Monitoring: Maintain the amber appearance and proper viscosity
  • Removal: Can be removed using alkaline cleaners
  • Safety Precautions: Ensure adequate ventilation during application and curing to prevent the formation of combustible vapors
  • Container Management: Keep containers sealed when not in use
  • Flash Point Awareness: Note the flash point of 192°F for proper safety measures during storage and handling
  • Consult Documentation: Refer to SDS for additional safety information and handling recommendations
