Product Information
Description
Tectyl 185GW Black is a premium solvent-based gelled calcium sulfonate corrosion preventive compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company. This advanced undercoating is cut back with mineral spirits and specifically designed to provide exceptional, long-term protection for components exposed to harsh marine, tropical, and industrial environments. When applied, Tectyl 185GW Black forms a semi-firm, black wax-like film that repels water more readily than asphalt-based coatings, offers self-healing properties when disrupted by minor damage, and maintains flexibility even at low temperatures, ensuring continuous protection for transportation equipment, industrial machinery, and metal structures exposed to corrosive environments.

Application Guidelines
- Apply at 8-10 mils wet to achieve 4-5 mils dry film for optimal performance
- Surfaces should be clean and free of loose rust, oil, and other contaminants
- Apply at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
- Can be applied via spray, brush, dip, or flow coat
- Use conventional rustproofing equipment
Equipment Recommendations
- Pump Ratios: Use pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater
- Spray Gun Nozzles: Tungsten carbide nozzles with orifice size of .017″ to .025″
- Fluid Hoses: High-pressure fluid hose of at least 3/8 inches for up to 50 ft
- Low-Ratio Pumps (15-30:1): Up to 150 ft of total hose length
- High-Ratio Pumps (>30:1): Up to 250 ft of total hose length
This calcium sulfonate-based wax coating provides exceptional protection for up to 5 years on both wood and metal substrates, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring long-term corrosion prevention in challenging environments.
