Description

TECTYL® 1431 is a premium high solids, solvent-based corrosion preventive coating manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company. This environmentally conscious formula features a low VOC content (2.8 lbs/gallon) and is completely free of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs), while providing an effective barrier against corrosive environments for both ferrous and non-ferrous fabrications and industrial components. The rapid-drying black coating forms a hard, flexible, and durable protective film that delivers exceptional corrosion resistance while maintaining excellent mechanical properties, making it ideal for trailer sub-frames, intermodal chassis, rail cars, and various road, farm, and construction equipment.

Ideal Applications

Transportation Equipment:

  • Trailer sub-frames and intermodal chassis
  • Rail cars and components
  • Road, farm, and construction equipment
  • Underbody and frame protection for vehicles and trailers

Metal Fabrication:

  • Protection of finished metal parts and components
  • Corrosion prevention for structural steel elements
  • Long-term preservation of fabricated metal assemblies

Industrial Equipment:

  • Protective coating for machinery and equipment exposed to harsh environments
  • Preservation of replacement parts and components
  • Finishing coat for industrial metal products requiring both protection and appearance

Metal and Wood Substrates:

  • Direct-to-metal application for effective corrosion protection
  • Protection for metal and wood substrates in industrial environments

Application Guidelines

TECTYL® 1431 is formulated to be used as supplied without thinning. Ensure uniform consistency prior to use, though continued stirring is generally not required.

Surface Preparation:

  • For maximum performance, metal surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale
  • Recommended substrate temperature during application: 50-95°F (10-35°C)

Application Methods:

  • Can be applied by airless spray, conventional spray, or brush

Equipment Recommendations:

  • Pump Ratios:
    • Low Ratio: 23-30:1, maximum hose length of 150 ft
    • High Ratio: >40:1, maximum hose length of 250 ft
  • Spray Gun Nozzles:
    • Tungsten carbide tips with .015″ to .021″ orifice size
  • Fluid Hoses:
    • Minimum diameter of 3/8 inch, less than 50 ft of material hose for optimal flow
  • Fluid Pressure:
    • 1800-2400 psi is required for efficient application

Important Notes:

  • If product thickens due to cold storage or loss of solvent, contact Daubert Chemical Company
  • DO NOT THIN the product as incorrect thinning will affect film build, dry time, and performance
  • The dry film is not normally intended for removal but can be stenciled over after the film is cured
  • Xylene, Acetone, or Ketone solvents will remove fresh residue accumulated on application equipment
  • If removability is a factor, contact Daubert Chemical Company and samples should be evaluated prior to application

Storage and Handling

  • Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Mild agitation is recommended prior to use
  • Adequate ventilation is required for cure and to ensure against formation of a combustible liquid
  • The partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources such as flares, flames, sparks, excessive heat, or torches
  • The addition of any product over or under this coating is not recommended due to potential chemical incompatibility
  • Refer to Daubert’s Material Safety Data Sheet for complete health and safety instructions
