Application Guidelines
TECTYL® 1420 HAPS Free Black is formulated to be used as supplied without thinning. Ensure uniform consistency prior to use, though continued stirring is generally not required.
Surface Preparation:
- For maximum performance, metal surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale
- Recommended substrate temperature during application: 50-95°F (10-35°C)
Application Methods:
- Can be dip applied
- For optimal results, ensure ambient and product temperature is between 50-95°F (10-35°C) at time of application
Equipment Recommendations:
- Pumps:
- Low Ratio: 15-30:1 for up to 150 ft. (100 ft. of 1/2″ hose & 50 ft. of 3/8″ hose)
- High Ratio: >30:1 for up to 250 ft. (200 ft. of 1/2″ hose & 50 ft. of 3/8″ hose)
- Spray Gun Tips:
- Tungsten carbide nozzles with a .017″ to .021″ tip orifice size
- Hoses:
- Minimum diameter of 3/8 inch for fluid hoses
- Recommended Sprayer:
- QUICKCOAT Precision Sprayer for optimal application
Important Notes:
- If product thickens due to cold storage or loss of water and coalescing solvent, contact Daubert Chemical Company
- DO NOT THIN the product as incorrect thinning will affect film build, dry time, and performance
- DO NOT FREEZE the product—the waterborne formula is freeze-sensitive
- The dry film is not normally intended for removal but can be stenciled over after the film is cured
- Tectyl WBS-B, citrus or alkaline cleaner will remove fresh residue accumulated on application equipment
- If removability is a factor, contact Daubert Chemical Company and samples should be evaluated prior to application
Storage and Handling
- Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
- Mild agitation is recommended prior to use
- Protect from freezing temperatures
- Adequate ventilation is required for cure and to ensure against formation of a combustible liquid
- The partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources such as flares, flames, sparks, excessive heat, or torches
- The addition of any product over or under this coating is not recommended due to potential chemical incompatibility
- Refer to Daubert’s Material Safety Data Sheet for complete health and safety instructions
