Description

Tectyl 127CG Gray is a solvent-based, gelled calcium sulfonate compound manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company. This specialized corrosion preventive coating is formulated with mineral spirits to provide excellent weathering and corrosion protection, abrasion resistance, and sound dampening for industrial applications. When applied, Tectyl 127CG Gray forms a firm, non-tacky, wax-like protective film with a distinctive gray/aluminum color, making it suitable for manufacturers and industries that prefer this alternative to traditional black undercoatings. The product is specifically recommended for use in the transportation industry as an undercoating and sound deadener, while also possessing dielectric properties that prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals.

  • Protection Duration: Up to 3 years for both metal and wood substrates

Key Features

  • Corrosion Resistance: Creates a protective barrier that prevents corrosion and oxidation
  • Self-Healing Properties: Forms a film that retains flexibility and repels water, even at low temperatures
  • Abrasion Protection: Provides extraordinary resistance to wear and tear
  • Sound Dampening: Reduces noise by dampening vibrations on coated surfaces
  • Durable Gray Finish: Aids in inspection visibility and distinguishes from traditional black options
  • Dielectric Properties: Prevents galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals

Ideal Applications

Municipal and Transportation Equipment

  • Trucks, buses, and municipal vehicles – For extended service life
  • Beverage trucks and package delivery vans – Protection from frequent use
  • Fleet trailers and OEM applications – Factory-applied protection
  • Vehicle underbodies – As an undercoating for cars, trucks, and trailers
  • Wheel wells and fender liners – Areas prone to road debris and moisture

Industrial Applications

  • Metal fabrications – For protection during transit and storage
  • Manufacturing equipment – Between installation and commissioning
  • Wood and metal surfaces – For mixed-material applications
  • Electrical equipment – Taking advantage of dielectric properties
  • Metal-to-metal connections – To prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals

Application Guidelines

  • Apply at 8-10 mils wet to achieve 4-5 mils dry film thickness
  • Metal surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil, and mill scale
  • Apply at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Use as supplied – DO NOT THIN the product
  • Ensure uniform consistency prior to use
  • Can be airless spray applied

Equipment Recommendations

  • Pump Ratios:
    • Low Ratio (15-30:1): For up to 150 ft total hose length (100 ft of 1/2″ & 50 ft of 3/8″)
    • High Ratio (>30:1): For up to 250 ft total hose length (200 ft of 1/2″ & 50 ft of 3/8″)
  • Spray Gun Nozzles: Tungsten carbide nozzles with .019″ to .025″ tip orifice sizes
  • Fluid Hoses: Minimum diameter of 3/8 inch for hoses less than 50 ft

Storage and Handling

  • Store at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Mild agitation is recommended prior to use
  • The partially cured film should not be exposed to ignition sources
  • Can be removed with TECTYL HPS solventborne thinner, vapor degreasing, hot alkaline wash, or low pressure steam

This versatile corrosion preventive compound provides enhanced durability, ease of application, long-term protection up to 3 years, and a visible gray coating that facilitates inspections and ensures uniform coverage for a wide range of industrial and transportation applications.
