Description

Tectyl 155FF is a premium, black rust-proofing undercoating manufactured by Daubert Chemical Company. This high-performance product is formulated with solvent-based gelled calcium sulfonate compound, cutback with mineral spirits, providing superior long-term protection compared to basic asphalt-based coatings. When applied, Tectyl 155FF creates a non-tacky, firm, black wax-like film that offers exceptional corrosion resistance and abrasion protection for both steel and wood substrates. Its thixotropic nature ensures easy application and superior spreading capabilities when mixed or agitated, creating a flexible, dry, and abrasion-resistant barrier that effectively protects surfaces from the damaging effects of corrosive environments.

Key Features

  • Excellent Corrosion Protection: Protects metal and wood surfaces from abrasion, weathering, and corrosion
  • Thixotropic Properties: Becomes more fluid with mixing for easier application and better coverage
  • High-Quality Wax-like Coating: Creates a firm, black film that is flexible at low temperatures
  • Self-Healing Properties: Maintains continuous protection even after minor damage
  • Effective on Used Equipment: Ideal for used transportation equipment with less-than-perfect substrates
  • High Solids Content: Higher solid percentage for more robust protection
  • Lower VOC: Environmentally friendlier formulation with reduced volatile organic compounds

Ideal Applications

Transportation and OEM Equipment

  • Package delivery step vans – For extended service life in various weather conditions
  • Municipal transportation equipment – Protection from road salt and environmental factors
  • Truck beverage bodies – For resistance to frequent washing and cleaning chemicals
  • OEM trailers – Factory-applied protection for long service life
  • Heavy-duty truck underbodies – For maximum protection in severe service conditions
  • Bus chassis and frames – Protection from road salt and environmental exposure

Industrial Applications

  • Marine equipment – Superior protection in saltwater environments
  • Heavy construction equipment – For durability in challenging job site conditions
  • Mining machinery – Protection from extreme exposure conditions
  • Agricultural equipment – Resistance to fertilizers and agricultural chemicals
  • Industrial machinery bases – Areas exposed to moisture and chemicals
  • Wood substrates – For weathering and corrosion resistance

Application Guidelines

  • Apply at 11-13 mils WFT to achieve 5-6 mils DFT for optimal protection
  • Surfaces should be clean and free of loose rust, oil, and other contaminants
  • Apply at temperatures between 50-95°F (10-35°C)
  • Due to its high-solids and low VOC content, requires a higher ratio airless pump (20:1 or greater)
  • Equipment should deliver 800-1200 psi to a 0.017 to 0.021 reverse-a-clean tip

Application Equipment Recommendations

  • Pump Ratios: Use pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater (20:1 or greater recommended)
  • Spray Gun Nozzles: Tungsten carbide nozzles with .017″ to .021″ orifice size
  • Fluid Hoses: High-pressure fluid hose of at least 3/8 inches for up to 50 ft
  • Low-Ratio Pumps (15-30:1): Up to 150 ft of total hose length
  • High-Ratio Pumps (>30:1): Up to 250 ft of total hose length

This premium calcium sulfonate-based wax coating provides exceptional protection for both metal and wood surfaces for up to 5 years, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring maximum durability, abrasion resistance, and corrosion prevention in challenging environments.
